Broncos Open Outdoors at Idaho Cup & Texas Relays

► WHAT'S HAPPENING - The Boise State track and field teams kick off the 2012 outdoor season this weekend with the majority of both the men's and women's teams heading to the Idaho Cup in Nampa, Idaho, March 30-31.

Two Broncos, Kurt Felix and Alexi Morton, will travel south to the Texas Relays to compete in multi-event competitions, March 28-21.

► IDAHO CUP MEET SPECIFICS - The Broncos travel to Nampa to compete at the Northwest Nazarene Track Facility for the Idaho Cup. The Idaho Cup will consist of Boise State, Idaho State, College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene's men's and women's teams. The meet is slated for both Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, beginning at 12 noon on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Running events begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, as well as 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

► TEXAS RELAYS MEET SPECIFICS - Kurt Felix and Alexi Morton will be among some of the top multi-eventers this weekend at the Texas Relays. Felix's 18-man field in the decathlon includes NCAA Indoor Heptathlon Champion Curtis Beach of Duke, who set a new world record in the 1,000-meters a few weeks ago in Nampa. Four other NCAA competitors join Beach and Felix in the field. Morton also joins a solid field of 18 women for the heptathlon. The women's heptathlon will kick off the weekend with an 11:30 a.m. (CT) start, followed by a 12 noon (CT) start to the men's decathlon on Wednesday, March 28.  On Thursday, March 29, the decathlon begins at 11 a.m. (CT), followed by the heptathlon at 12 noon (CT).

► RANKINGS WATCH - The 2012 USTFCCCA Division I National Team Computer Rankings for the outdoor preseason were released this past week, marking the Bronco men as the No. 66-ranked team in the country.  

Seven Broncos ranked in eight events for the preseason rankings with Kurt Felix ranking No. 17 in the decathlon and No. 49 in the high jump, Alex Nelson sitting at No. 10 in the hammer throw, Sawyer Bosch at No. 18 in the steeplechase, Eetu Viitala at No. 18 in the long jump and Trevor Kraychir at No. 24 in the hammer throw to round out top-25 ranked individuals. Chase Sexton ranks No. 37 in the discus and Rolando Trammel is No. 44 in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Bronco women were not ranked in the preseason rankings and neither the men nor women have TFRRS rankings at this point in the season.

The TFFRS rankings are based only on 2012 results, whereas the USTFCCCA rankings take into account the final 2011 rankings of some athletes.
