Arnos and Stevens Earn Regional Qualifying Standards at Trojan Invite

Los Angeles It was an abbreviated roster for the Boise State University track and field team at the Trojan Invitational at Loker Stadium, Saturday, Mar. 22, as only a select number of the student-athletes took the journey to Los Angeles.


Zacharias Arnos won the men’s triple jump and posted an NCAA Regional Qualifying Standard with a leap of 50-3.25 (15.32m). Arnos finished fourth at the western region in the triple jump during the 2007 outdoor season with a mark of 51-4.50 (15.66m).


Jarrod Stevens earned an NCAA Regional Qualifying Standard in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 189-06 (57.77m) as he finished seventh in the event.


Nick Cunningham posted a 10.78 in the men’s 100m dash and a 21.54 in the 200m dash as he finished third in both events. Both marks are just .2 seconds of the regional qualifying mark.


Brian Pierre continues to impress in his freshman season as he took second place in the 3,000m with a time of 8:35.50. Pierre collected second place finishes in both the 3,000 and 5,000m races at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.


Freshman Mele Vaisima earned a third place finish in the women’s discus with a throw of 130-11 (39.91m).


In other action Megan Olivetti finished fifth in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 14.23, Leah Hover posted an eighth place finish in the women’s 800m (2:18.52) and Marlon Douglas finished sixth in the men’s 100m dash (10.93).  


The Boise State track and field team will continue its season Apr. 4-5 with the All Idaho Collegiate Cup in Boise, Idaho.
