Boise State senior Kurt Felix finished the first day of the heptathlon in second place with 3,344 points during 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. He is 13 points behind leader Gray Horn, a senior from the University of Florida, with 3,357 points.
In the long jump Felix placed first with a mark of 25-0 3/4 (7.64m) to earn 970 points. He tied the group best for the day in the high jump with a height of 6-9 3/4 (2.08m). Wisconsin sophomore Japheth Cato and Georgia senior Cory Holman both equaled Felix in the height. Felix tied his season best 42-11 1/2 (13.09m) in the shot put to accrue 673 points in the event. Cato ranked third with 3,333 points and Holman fourth with 3,311 points after the first day. Felix first competed in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds to earn 823 points. The heptathlon resumes Saturday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run to round off the event. |
