Seven Broncos Compete at UW Final Qualifier

SEATTLE - Seven Boise State men's track and field team members headed to Seattle to compete in the UW Final Qualifier Saturday (March 3). The meet was held for those who wanted one last chance to earn a qualifying mark or improve a mark to solidify a spot at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held next week (March 9-10) at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.

Senior Trevor Kraychir came away with a win, tossing 66'-2.25" in the weight throw, one of his season's best throws. Although it was a solid effort, it was not enough for an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

In the 800-meters there were four Broncos competing, with Dusty Klein leading the way. Klein ran a 1:51.46 for a season-best time and earned an eighth-place finish. Michael Walrath finished close behind in 10th-place, clocking a 1:51.55, while Andy Robertson placed 11th in 1:52.53. Kyle Brush rounded out the Bronco half-milers, running a 1:55.82 to place 18th.

Broncos David Elliott and Aaron Back also raced at the meet, competing in the 3000-meters. Elliott clocked a time of 8:25.47 to place 11 th, while Back placed 17th in 8:33.88.

The Broncos' team efforts have come to an end for the 2012 indoor season, with Kurt Felix and Mele Vaisima advancing on as individual team members to the NCAA National Championships next week. Felix will compete in the men's heptathlon, slated for a 10 a.m. start on Friday (March 9) and 10:30 a.m. start on Saturday. Vaisima will compete in her first national championship, qualifying in the weight throw which is slated for a 2 p.m. start on Friday.
