MW Honors Ostrander and Elliott Again
Feb. 16, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced their weekly honors on Monday, and Allie Ostrander was named the Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and David Elliott was named the Mountain West Men’s Co-Track Athlete of the Week for their performances this past weekend at the Husky Classic.

Elliott shared the honor with Air Force’s Patrick Corona. This is Elliott’s third weekly honor of the indoor season, and the second for Ostrander.

Ostrander ran an 8:54.27 in the 3,000m on Saturday afternoon, giving her both the school and Mountain West records in the process. The freshman’s 3,000m time is the third-fastest on an oversized track in collegiate indoor history, and the 10th-fastest ever regardless of track size.

The Kenai, Alaska native now has the fastest 3,000m and 5,000m times on the season, making her a virtual lock to qualify for both events at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12.

Elliott reached a milestone of his own, becoming the first Bronco in school history to run a sub-four minute mile with his 3:57.68. The time also gives him the school record and the third-fastest time in Mountain West history.

The Puyallup, Wash. native becomes the 461st U.S. miler to accomplish the feat, and the 59th U.S. miler to do so in the state of Washington. His mile time is tied for No. 4 in the country this year, and his 3,000m time (7:53.15) stands as the No. 13 time. With the top 16 individuals qualifying to nationals at the end of the regular season, Elliott is also a legitimate candidate for qualifying for multiple events.

The Broncos will return to competition next weekend when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 25-27.
