BRONCOS TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS DOMIATE COMPETITION IN WINNING 13 EVENTS AT BOISE STATE TEAM INVITATIONAL

            NAMPA, Idaho Competing in its final meet before the Western Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks, the Boise State University track and field team dominated the Boise State Team Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 10) winning 13 events.

            The Bronco women enjoyed many first places at the Jacksons Indoor Track winning nine events.  Eleni Ypsilanti led the team winning the 20-pound weight throw with another personal best of 64-6.50 (19.67m).  The senior from Greece, improved on her previous NCAA provisional qualifying mark while also breaking the Greek National Record she had set just the week before at 63-11.75 (19.50m).

            Two of Ypslianti’s countrywomen from Greece also came away victories for Boise State.  Eleni Kafourou won the triple jump with a mark of 42-4.25 (12.91m) and Theodora Xylaki placed first in the high jump at 5-6 (1.68m).

            The Bronco women also won five of the eight running events on Saturday.  Nataucha Lowry won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.86, Megan Olivetti won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.43, Kayleen McDowell won the 800-meter run with a time 2:13.76, Breanna Sande finished first in the mile run at 4:58.18 and the 4x400-meter relay team recorded a first place time of 3:48.84.

            Amber Tavares closed out the first place finishes for the Bronco women with personal best of 44-9.50 (13.65m) in the shot put.

            Zacharias Arnos led the men’s team improving on his previous NCAA provisional qualifying mark in winning the triple jump.  Arnos placed first with a leap of 51-0.00 (15.54m), improving on his previous mark of 50-8.00 (15.44m). 

            Caleb Cazier came away the winner in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.81 and Ty Axtman improved his season best time in winning the mile run at 4:15.97.  Cody Eaton capped the first place finishes for the Bronco men on Saturday winning the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:57.09. 

            The Bronco men and women’s team will now have two weeks to prepare for the WAC Indoor Championship, Feb. 23 and 24 (Friday and Saturday), which will be held at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa.  Boise State is the men’s defending champion.
