Felix, Vaisima Garner Weekly Mountain West Honors

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State swept this week's Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors with senior Kurt Felix earning the men's honor and senior Mele Vaisima earning the women's honor. This is Felix's first honor this season and Vaisima's second.

Hailing from St. Davids, Grenada, Felix earned first-place honors in the men's long jump and men's high jump events, respectively, at the Bronco Classic last weekend. He set a new personal-best mark in the long jump, recording a leap of 24'-6.50" (7.48m) to win the event. That mark ranks fourth in Mountain West history and 27th in the nation this season. Felix also notched a season-best high jump of 6'-10.50" (2.09m), which is tied for first in the MW and 66th in the NCAA this year.

Vaisima, a product of Salt Lake City, Utah, won the women's weight throw title at the Bronco Classic last Saturday. Vaisima recorded a toss of 65'-3.50" (19.90m) to claim the individual crown. Her mark is a meet record and ranks fourth in Mountain West history. She also earned fourth-place honors in the women's shot put at the Bronco Classic, notching a throw of 43'-9.25" (13.34m). Vaisima was also named athlete of the week on Dec. 12, 2011.
