OLIVETTI AND KAFOUROU NAMED WAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BOISE, Idaho The Western Athletic Conference announced its Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Jan. 26-Feb. 1), Monday, and the Boise State women have swept this week’s awards. Megan Olivetti was named Track Athlete of the Week, while Eleni Kafourou was awarded Field Athlete of the Week.

Olivetti, a senior from Reno, Nev. (Wooster HS), broke the oldest Boise State indoor track and field record last Friday (Jan. 30) at the Bronco Invitational in Nampa. Olivetti set the 60-meter hurdle record with a time of 8.60, which also earned a first-place finish at the meet. The previous record was set by Karla Jacoby in 1985 and was tied by Tosha Bailey in 1995.

Kafourou, a senior from Athens, Greece (9th Kykeium of Pireas HS), also had a record breaking weekend at the Bronco Invite where she broke the Boise State triple jump record with a leap of 43-5.00 (13.23m). Her event winning jump broke her own school record of 43-3.00, which she set last year. Kafourou also took home the Bronco Invite long jump title, jumping 20-3.00 (6.17m). Both jumps are NCAA provisional marks and currently conference-bests.
