Henderson Named Mountain West AOTW
Jan. 31, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced the athletes of the week for track and field on Tuesday and Boise State’s Sadi Henderson was named the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 26-28. The weekly league honor is the first of the junior’s career and the first for any Bronco athlete during the 2016-17 indoor season.

Henderson clocked a 2:04.01 in the 800m this past Saturday at the UW Invitational in Seattle at the Dempsey Indoor. The time is the second-fastest indoor 800m time in conference history and also a school record.

The 2:04.01 is currently the fourth-fastest 800m time in NCAA Division I this season.  With the top-16 fastest times in the country automatically qualifying to the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Henderson is in good position to punch her ticket to nationals. 2:04.45 was the final qualifying time in last year's women's 800m race at nationals.

The performance up in Seattle was a team effort, however, with teammate and fellow middle distance runner Amy Pfaff setting the pace as the rabbit. Pfaff set a brisk pace and stepped off after 500m, setting the table for a fast final lap from Henderson. The Corvallis, Mont., native executed the latter half of the race to perfection, finishing in first place in her heat and third overall behind professional runners Kate Grace (2:02.29) and Justine Fredronic (2:03.43).

The junior previously broke the school record earlier this season at the Ed Jacoby Invitational, running a 2:05.71. That performance also got her into the top-five list of the Mountain West Conference at the No. 4 spot. She has yet to lose a race to a fellow collegiate runner this season.

As a team, the Boise State women have continued to ascend the national rankings as they now find themselves pegged as the No. 11 team according to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings. The ranking is a seven-spot improvement from the previous week (No. 18).

The Broncos are the highest ranked team from a Group of Five conference along with the highest ranked team from the Mountain West.

Boise State will have their fourth home indoor meet of the 2016-17 season this weekend when they host the Jacksons Invitational on Feb. 3-4 at the Ford Idaho Center.
