Kraychir Earns NCAA Provisional Mark at Bronco Invitational

NAMPA, Idaho - The Boise State track and field teams hosted the 2010 Bronco Invitational on Sat., Jan. 30, their third indoor meet of the season. In a meet of nearly five-hundred entries, the Broncos came out with a handful of wins and two NCAA Provisional marks.

Boise State's Trevor Kraychir earned the most recent NCAA Provisional qualification Saturday when he captured the men's weight throw title with a toss of 64 feet, 2 .5 inches (19.57 meters). He surpassed the provisional qualifying mark by seven centimeters and out threw his nearest competitor by 4 feet, 4 inches.

The second Bronco to hit an NCAA Provisional mark at the Bronco Invitational was senior Zacharias Arnos, who actually first earned a qualifying mark in the triple jump last week. He bettered that mark Saturday with a leap of 52 feet, 4.5 inches to win the men's triple jump and improve on his No. 9 national ranking from last week.

Also earning wins for the Bronco men were junior Daniel Thompson in the pole vault and sophomore Quinten Hennekam in the mile run. Thompson cleared a height of 15 feet, 1 inch and made it over in less misses than Utah State's John Johnson who cleared the same height, giving Thompson the outright event win. Hennekam clocked a time of 4 minutes, 19.99 seconds in the mile to edge out second place finisher Barak Watson of Northwest Nazarene by .16 seconds.

The Bronco men also earned second-place finishes by Eric Capelle (60-meter dash), Sawyer Bosch (3000-meter run), Kurt Felix (high jump) and in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The Bronco men were also able to capture four third-place finishes by Marlon Douglas (60-meter dash), Scott Foley (3000-meter run), Rolando Trammel (triple jump) and Felix (long jump).

On the women's side, one Bronco earned a first-place finish. Sophomore Mele Vaisima captured the women's weight throw title with a toss of 60 feet, 8 inches (18.49 meters), out-throwing second-place by three feet, 1 inch.

Boise State junior BreAnna Craig was the only other top-3 finisher for the Bronco women, placing third in the women's pole vault. Craig cleared a height of 12 feet, 1.50 inches, tying with BYU's Christen Botteron.

The Bronco men were able to earn three fourth-place finishes, five fifth-place finishes, four sixth-place finishes, two seventh-place finishes and two eighth-place finishes to round out all top-8 finishes.

Boise State's women placed two women in fourth-place, three in fifth-place, one in sixth-place and two in eighth-place to round out all top-8 finishers by the Broncos.

The Broncos continue their 2010 indoor track and field season this coming Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5 at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. The meet will consist of collegiate competitions, master's competitions and junior competitions. Friday's start time is slated for 5 p.m. with four field events, while the track events begin at 5:10 p.m. with the master's 3000-meter run. Saturday's events begin 9 a.m. with jumping events and 9:45 a.m. on the track with the master's mile run.
