STRANDQUIST AND PHILLIP EARN WAC INDOOR TRACK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK HONORS

             BOISE, Idaho The Western Athletic Conference announced its Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Jan. 19-25) on Monday and two Boise State sprinters have earned one of the weekly awards. Sophomore Per Strandquist was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while senior Nerisha Phillip was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

            Strandquist, a sophomore from Akarp, Sweden (Malmo Latinskola HS), won his first AOW honor by winning the 60 and 200-meter dashes at the Blue and Orange Classic in Nampa last Saturday. In the first collegiate meet of his career, Strandquist ran the 60m in 6.90 and the 200m in 21.85. His 60m time is the fastest in the WAC this season, while his 200m time ranks third in the conference.

            Phillip, a senior from St. Andrews, Granda (St. Davids Secondary HS), earned individual titles in the 200m and 400m races last weekend. She also ran the opening leg for the 4x400m relay team that won the Blue and Orange meet with a time of 3:49.52. Phillip’s 200m (24.93) and 400m (46.38) times are both tops in the WAC this season.

                Both the men and women’s track and field teams will be back in action next weekend when they host the Bronco Invitational in Nampa, Friday-Saturday (Jan. 30-31).
