Zacharias Arnos Earns NCAA Provisional Mark in Triple Jump at BSU Duals

NAMPA, Idaho - The Boise State track and field teams hosted the BSU Duals, their second meet of the 2009-2010 season, on Sat., Jan. 23 at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center. The Bronco men finished the day with a 1-0-1 team dual record, defeating Idaho State by just four points and tying Utah Valley with 68 team points. The Bronco women finished 0-3 on the day, falling to Idaho State Utah Valley and Nevada.

The highlight of the day for Boise State was senior Zacharias Arnos earning an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump. Arnos, who placed first in the event, covered a distance of 15.55 meters (51-feet, 0.25-inches) to surpass the qualifying mark of 15.45 meters. Arnos also earned a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 7.35 meters (24-feet, 1.50-inches).

Six additional Broncos joined Arnos as individual event winners on the day, including freshman Paul Roberston who doubled as a winner in the 400-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay. Robertson clocked a time of 49.38 seconds in the 400-meter dash to out-run Utah Valley's Mike Keith by .08 seconds. Robertson was joined by senior Marlon Douglas, freshman Jeff Daw and sophomore Eric Capelle to capture the 4x400-meter relay title. The quartet finished the race in a time of 3-minutes, 20.02-seconds to win by nearly a second.

Solidifying Boise State's presence in the throwing events, two Bronco men captured titles in the shot put and weight throw. Freshman Chase Sexton out-threw his nearest competitor by over eight-feet, earning a mark of 16.57-meters (54-feet, 4.50-inches) to win the event. Sophomore Trevor Kraychir rounded out the Broncos' dominance in the throws with a win in the 35-pound weight throw. Kraychir also out-threw his nearest competitor by over eight-feet, reaching a mark of 18.99-meters (62-feet, 3.75-inches).

On the women's side, Boise State was able to capture two event wins on the day. Sophomore Mele Vaisima was the first Bronco woman to earn a title, winning the 20-pound weight throw. Out-doing her nearest opponent by over five-feet, Vaisima earned a mark of 17.52-meters (57-feet, 5.75-inches) in the win.

Joining Vaisima as the sole event winners for the Bronco women was junior BreAnna Craig. Craig earned the women's pole vault title, finishing as the only competitor to clear 3.80-meters (12-feet, 5.50-inches).

The Bronco men were able to capture five second-place finishes and four third-place finishes on the day, while the women were able to add three third-place finishes to their two wins.

Overall, the Utah Valley men's team was the only team to finish without a team loss on the day, going 1-0-1 defeating Idaho State and tying with the Broncos. Boise State was 1-0-1, while ISU finished 0-2 on the men's side. In the women's dual competition, ISU, Nevada and Utah Valley each finished 2-1, while the Broncos were 0-3.

The Broncos continue their season with the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Jan. 30. The meet will be held at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho, and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
