BRONCO TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS OPEN INDOOR SEASON AT HAMPTION INN & SUITES CLASSIC

NAMPA, Idaho Bronco track and field athletes won five events on Saturday (Jan. 20) as Boise State University opened its 2007 indoor season hosting the Hampton Inn & Suites Classic at the Jacksons Indoor Track.

Nataucha Lowry and Eleni Ypsilanti came away winners for the women’s team, while David Walden, Zacharias Arnos and Erik Whittsett did the same for the men’s team.

Lowry won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.97, with Ypsilanti winning the weight throw with a mark of 59-2.75 (18.05m).

Walden captured the men’s high jump with a mark of 6-9 (2.06m), whilel Arnos won the triple jump with a mark of 49-6.25 (15.09m) and Whittsett placed first in the shot put with a toss of 56-9.25 (17.30m).

Another highlight for the women’s team on Saturday was Elena Kafourou’s performance in the women’s triple jump. While placing second, Kafourou’s mark of 41-9.25 (12.73m) was the second best indoor jump in school history and was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The school record is 42-2.25 set by Abigail Ferguson in 1992.

The Bronco track and field teams will be back in action again this coming weekend at the Jacksons Indoor Track as they host the Bronco Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 26 and 27).
