Emma Bates

Jan. 9, 2014

BOISE, Idaho - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that Boise State's Emma Bates has received votes toward being selected to the 10-athlete 2014 Bowerman Trophy Women's Preseason Watch List.

Sitting just outside that preseason top-10, Bates earns her first-career nod in regards to the Watch List, while also becoming the first Bronco in school history to be considered for the Watch List. Bates will compete in her senior season of indoor track and field as well as her redshirt junior season of outdoor track and field in 2014.

The Bowerman, regarded as `The Heisman' of collegiate track and field, is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athletes in the sport of NCAA track and field.

The Watch List is determined by the Women's Watch List Committee, which is made up of four individuals. Each of the four submits an undisclosed rank-ordered top-10 list and the 10 student-athletes who garner the most vote-points are included on the Watch List. Student-athletes who received votes but did not make the top-10 are also listed.

The first regular-season edition of the Women's Watch List for The Bowerman will be released Thursday, February 6.
