Broncos Begin New Year with Blue and Orange Opener

► MEET SPECIFICS - The Boise State track and field program begins its 2013 schedule on Saturday, hosting the Blue and Orange Opener at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. The meet will be the first of 2013 for the Broncos, but the second of the season following the Nov. 30-Dec. 1 Jacksons Open meet in 2012. The Blue and Orange Opener will be one of three one-day meets hosted by the Broncos this season.

$5 - Adults
$3 - Students with ID / Kids 6-12 years / Seniors 60+
Kids 5 and under are free

Saturday, January 12
Field Events: 9:30 a.m. (women's high jump)
Track Events: 10:45 a.m. (mixed masters 1 Mile)

► THE COMPETITION - The Boise State men and women welcome NCAA Division I opponents Oregon and Nevada, as well as Northwest Nazarene as a local opponent. The Pacific United Club and Boise River Running Club will compete at the meet as well.

► HONORS CANDIDATES - In the first week of Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, Boise State swept the field earning both the men's and women's honors. Jordin Andrade was named the men's honoree after clocking the second-fastest 400-meter time in school history, as well as running on the third-fastest 4x400-meter relay in school history. Emma Bates earned the women's honor after running the second-fastest Mile in Bronco history. Both honorees were named on Dec. 11, 2012.

► DIRECTIONS TO THE IDAHO CENTER - The Idaho Center sits on the north side of East Franklin Road, between Idaho Center Blvd. and Star Road, approximately one-half mile north of Interstate 84. If coming from I-84, take Exit 38 and go north approximately one-half mile to the light (E. Franklin Rd.). Go right at the light and continue approximately another one-half mile and turn left onto Equine Drive. Continue another one-quarter mile and the building will be on the right.

► INDOOR SCHEDULE - Boise State hosts six indoor regular season meets in its 2012-13 indoor season, starting with the Jacksons Open and Multi's on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2012. They open the New Year on Jan. 12 with the Blue and Orange Opener, followed by the Bronco Invitational on Jan. 19. The Jacksons Invitational (NB West) meet will be held Jan. 25-26 while the Bronco Classic (Feb. 2) and Boise State Team Challenge (Feb. 8-9) round out the schedule. Boise State travels to the Husky Invitational (Feb. 9) and the UW Last Chance Qualifier (March 2). The Broncos will also play host the 2012 Mountain West Indoor Championships Feb. 21-23.
