Broncos Earn Eight Titles in Season Opener

NAMPA, Idaho –
The Boise State track and field team had a solid season opening meet Friday evening winning eight events in the Jacksons Open and Multi at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Corey Ihmels and his staff, Allison Jeffries, Megan Kelley, Mackenzie Flannigan, Lacie Rasley, Jordin Andrade, Ryan Sanders, Matt Post and the women’s “A” 4x400-meter relay all collected wins.

In her first meet as a Bronco, Jeffries, a freshman from Eagle, Idaho, cleared 12-5.50 (3.80m) to win the women’s pole vault by nearly a foot. Rasley, a sophomore, earned a second title in the field events, winning the shot put with a toss of 44-6.75 (13.58m).

Kelley, a junior, captured the women’s 400-meter dash title with a time of 57.40, while Flannigan, a senior, led a handful of Broncos to win the 300-meter dash in 40.14-seconds. Senior Shannon Jacobs (41.31) and freshman Sandra Moran (41.80) rounded out a top-three Bronco finish by placing second and third, respectively.  Flannigan, Kelley, Jacobs and Chelsey Washington raced to the top 4x400-meter relay (4:04.57).

On the men’s side senior Jordin Andrade won the men’s only title on the track, taking the 400-meter win in 48.75-seconds. Matt Post threw 58-1 (17.70m) to win the men’s weight throw, while junior transfer Ryan Sanders captured the men’s triple jump title with a mark of 49-8.50 (15.15m).

Diamond Thomas also earned a top-three finish in the sprints, racing to a time of 25.97-seconds to place third in the 200-meters, while Dominique Drayden (36.53) and Ian Keys (36.86) matched the second and third-place efforts in the men’s 300-meters. Drayden joined Andrade, Bret Scheve and Rex Stanley to place second in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:24.18.

In the throws Karyna Armstrong earned a second-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 52-6.75 (16.02m) while Kimberly Miller (17-4) and Jasmyn Jewett (16-11.25) rounded out top-three finishes in field events capturing second and third-place finishes in the long jump, respectively.

The Broncos continue the 2013-14 season in January with the Jacksons Invitational/NB Boise meet Jan. 24-25.
