AZUSA, Calif. Anna McDonald ran a career-best 10:08.69 in the 3,000m steeplechase Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational on the campus of Azusa Pacific, making her the third-fastest Bronco in school history in the event.

McDonald took fourth in the race and fellow steepler Minttu Hukka was right behind in fifth thanks to a 10:18.00. The time from McDonald will likely improve the Broncos’ No. 1 squad ranking in the 3,000m steeplechase, according to the USTFCCCA.

Gracie Tostenson ran the first sub-16-minute 5,000m time of her career with a 15:58.88 to record a sixth-place finish in the fastest heat of the day. Jordan Jacob (16:39.81) recorded a PR and took second in heat No. 3, while Malia Pivec also PR’d and recorded a top-10 finish in the same race by taking 10th with a 16:54.84. Olivia Johnson (17:04.68) and Erin Mullins (17:19.79) rounded out the Bronco quartet in the third heat with both improving upon their outdoor season-opening times at the Stanford Invitational (March 31).

Karlie Swanson (17:32.38), Claire Graves (17:47.15) and Emily DeMarco (17:53.76) all logged valuable experience in other 5K heats throughout the evening.

Ahmed Muhumed built on his already solid outdoor debut from Stanford and threw down a new career-best 14:06.49 in heat two of the 5,000m on the men’s side. Riley Campbell (14:19.58) was hot on his heels in taking 19th place and also notching a PR.

Albert Beckham ran a 14:45.44 in the fourth heat.

The Bryan Clay Invitational will pick back up tomorrow morning. The first events involving a Bronco will be when Amber Mallet (pole vault), Liz Gaffney (javelin and discus), Emily Stiles (javelin) all begin competition at 9 a.m. PT.
