Ostrander Wins in Return to Track

STANFORD, Calif. – Allie Ostrander announced her return to the track and field world Friday night at the Stanford Invitational by winning the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:55.61 – making her the second-fastest women’s steeplechaser in school history. The redshirt freshman fought off a later charge from professional runner Alexina Wilson to claim the victory in what the first 3,000m steeplechase race of her collegiate career.

Ostrander stuck with the front pack for the majority of the race and made a solid move with two laps to go. Wilson closed the gap in the last 200 meters, but the Kenai, Alaska native responded accordingly with a late kick to earn the win.

Redshirt junior Courtney Hutchinson made her season debut in the shot put after redshirting indoors by recording a mark of 49-11.25 (15.22m) to further strengthen her spot at No. 3 on the school’s all-time performance list.

Alexis Fuller recorded a PR in the 1,500m and won section four thanks to a time of 4:22.08. Allison Jeffries also logged a solid performance pole vaulting, clearing 13-3 (4.04m) for second place.

Clare O'Brien logged an outstanding time in the 5K with a 15:57.36 to take 12th place.

On the men’s side Fernando Martinez was sensational in the 400m hurdles, winning the event thanks to a time of 52.17. Sprinters Bryce Kirby (10.76) and Alexandru Terpezan (10.96) both qualified to tomorrow’s 100m final after taking second and fourth in the preliminary.

Dusty Fisher ran a career-best 47.10 to take fourth in the 400m, and Yusuke Uchikoshi turned in a solid day in the 1,500m after taking third with a 3:51.96.

Ozo Rojas took 11th in section two of the 3,000m steeplechase, but the redshirt sophomore was excellent time-wise courtesy of a career-best 9:15.98.

SAN FRANCISCO –
Anna McDonald was sensational in the 3,000m steeplechase Friday night at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, clocking a 10:23.67 to become the fourth-fastest women’s steeplechaser in school history. McDonald (10:23.67) and Ostrander (9:55.61) are now No. 3 and No. 2 on the school’s all-time performance list in the event behind the school record holder – Marisa Howard (9:37.84).

Kyra Lopez also picked up a top-10 finish in the steeple thanks to a 10:38.67, good for seventh place.

Sadi Henderson carried over her momentum from the indoor season and won the 1,500m with a time of 4:23.18. Henderson now has six individual titles to her name this year counting the five she picked up in the indoor season.

Amy Pfaff was close behind in the same race, crossing the line in 4:28.80 to take fourth.

Drew Lindsley (149-10 / 45.66m) and Kevin Ketterling (147-0 / 44.82m) took sixth and seventh place, respectively, to log a pair of top-10 finishes in the weight throw.

Melika Ghali (3:55.92) recorded a top-20 finish in the 1,500m in taking 17th place and Andrew Rafla led the 5K effort with a 14:17.10 to take 23rd place.
