Boise State’s Emma Bates raced to a school record Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. The senior won the women’s 3000-meters in a time of 9:11.98.

Bates now owns the 19th-best time in the country in the 3000-meters while also topping her former school record of 9:13.63 set in 2013. Her time Saturday was just over 12-seconds faster than Sarah Rapp of Virginia Tech, who placed second at the Alex Wilson Invite.

The Elk River, Minn., native was shooting for an NCAA qualifying time in the event, landing on the bubble with two weeks left in the season. She holds an eighth-place ranking in the 5000-meters giving guaranteeing a spot to compete at the NCAA meet in the longer of the two races.

Bates will join her teammates at the 2014 Mountain West Championships next weekend, Feb. 27-March 1 at the Air Force Academy.
