SEATTLE, Wash.
Clare O’Brien ripped off a 9:09.01 in the 3,000m at the Husky Classic Saturday night at the Dempsey Indoor, making her the second-fastest women’s 3K runner in school history. The freshman surpassed Emma Bates (a 12-time All-American and the 2014 Outdoor Track and Field 10,000m National Champion) and her time of 9:11.98.

O’Brien’s time is also the fifth-fastest time in Mountain West history. The freshman competed in the fastest 3K heat of the evening and took 13th, finishing alongside some of the nation’s best. The Queensland, Australia native now only trails Allie Ostrander (8:54.27) in the Boise State record book.

Kyra Lopez also enjoyed a career-best 3K time with a 9:51.41 to round out the 3,000m on the women’s side. For the men it was Ozo Rojas leading the charge and recording a PR thanks to an 8:15.95. Andrew Rafla (8:16.14) was close behind.

The mile was highlighted by Yusuke Uchikoshi and his career-best 4:05.54. Tom Richardson did well for a 4:07.61, and Alexis Fuller was the lone competitor on the women's side with a 4:56.74.

Boise State will take a distance medley relay team to the Alex Wilson Invitational next weekend on Feb. 18 in Notre Dame, Ind.
