Bozarth Leads Broncos at Ed Jacoby Invitational

  Ed Jacoby Invite Day 1 Results    UW Invite Day 1 Results 

NAMPA, Idaho – The Boise State track and field team had eight representatives compete in day one of the Ed Jacoby Invitational and Multis at the Jacksons Indoor Track and two compete in the first day of the UW Invitational in Seattle.

Senior Hayli Bozarth earned the only win for the Broncos Friday, capturing the Ed Jacoby Invite women’s weight throw title with a toss of 64-1.75 (19.55m). Freshman Karyna Armstrong placed second with a throw of 59.0.25 (17.99m), while Lacie Rasley placed fourth (54-1.75 / 16.50m) and Kady Stafford placed sixth (51-6.25 / 15.70m).

At the UW Invitational seniors Emma Bates and Erin McLaughlin raced in the women’s 5000-meters Friday evening, placing fourth and 21st, respectively. Bates ran a time of 15:52.61, only two-seconds slower than her indoor school record, while McLaughlin set a new best by 20-seconds, crossing the finish in 17:34.58. Bates time is currently the sixth-fastest collegiate time in the nation.

Roderick Townsend and Danny Verdieck led off the day for the Broncos competing in the Ed Jacoby Invite men’s heptathlon. Townsend earned a win in the high jump, clearing 6-7.50 (2.02m), while also placing second in the shot put and third in the long jump. The senior’s efforts put him in third after the first day of competition with 2,839-points. Verdieck totaled 2,333-points over four events Friday evening, placing him in eighth heading into day two of the heptathlon. The pair will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Matt Post competed in the men’s weight throw placing third with a toss of 56-11.25 (17.35m).

Day two of the Ed Jacoby Invitational will begin Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. (MT) at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho. The men’s heptathlon 60-meter hurdles will kick-off the day; followed by the women’s high jump at 9:30 a.m. (MT).

Five Broncos are slated to compete on day two of the UW Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. (MT) at the Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.
