Brewer Hired as Associate AD for Compliance

Nov. 21, 2014 BOISE, Idaho - Boise State Athletics has hired Matt Brewer as its Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced Friday.

Brewer fills the position previously held by John Cunningham, who was recently promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. He will assume his responsibilities beginning Jan. 15, 2015.

"Matt brings a tremendous amount of experience to Boise State," Coyle said. "He has worked at the institutional level with schools in the Mountain West and the Pac-12, and at the national level with the NCAA. We are thrilled to hire someone with his background to help us continue fostering a department of compliance through education, and we believe he is a perfect fit for Boise State."

Brewer joins the Boise State staff from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), where he had served as Assistant Director of Academic and Membership Affairs since November 2010. His responsibilities included working in the primary area of rules compliance (student-athlete reinstatement, institutional performance program) and the secondary area of academics (academic improvement plans, APP penalty waivers).

Prior to joining the NCAA staff Brewer worked at Colorado State, where he was the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance from 2009-10. He was also the school's Director of Compliance from 2007-09. While with the Rams he served on the Division I Personnel and Recruiting Cabinet as the Mountain West representative.

Brewer also spent four years in the compliance office at Washington State, and worked as an intern at Arizona State in the marketing and compliance offices.

He earned his master's degree in education (athletic administration) at Washington State in 2005, and his bachelor's in sociology from Whitman College in 2002. Brewer was a four-year starter on Whitman's baseball team, serving as team captain during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
