Boise State and Utah Announce Basketball Series / Football Series Canceled

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University announced today (Oct. 7) the completion of a four-game home-and-home men's basketball series with the University of Utah, while at the same time having Utah cancel its remaining football games of a four-game series with the Broncos.

The first game of the basketball series is scheduled for December 17 (Friday) in Salt Lake City.  The second game will be played at Taco Bell Arena in Boise on November 16, 2011 (Wednesday).   Dates for the final two games are yet to be determined.

Utah had to cancel the remaining three games of its football series with the Broncos in preparation for its move into the Pac-10 Conference next season.  The Utes were scheduled to play at Bronco Stadium in 2011, with Boise State going to Salt Lake City in 2012 before Utah returned the final game in Boise in 2013.  The first game in the contract was played in 2006 at Utah with the Broncos' posting a 36-3 victory.

Since Utah needs to cancel the football series, it will pay Boise State a $350,000 buyout in accordance to the agreement between the two schools.

"While we are disappointed the football series between the two schools will not continue at this time, we are very excited about our upcoming four-game series in men's basketball," Boise State Director of Athletics Gene Bleymaier stated.

"At this time we are not sure if or when we'll be able to announce a replacement of Utah in our upcoming football schedules, Bleymaier stated.  "We are waiting to find out how many league games Boise State will have in the Mountain West Conference next season."
