BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State University officially joins the Mountain West Conference on Friday, July 1, signaling a rise in its academic and athletic affiliation and providing a new location for Bronco Nation.
"For several years, our sights have been set on membership in the Mountain West Conference," said Boise State President Bob Kustra. "Our new affiliation provides stronger relationships with a number of highly-respected universities pursuing a vision very similar to our own. It is a promising new era for Boise State and our region, and an honor to be in the company of the schools of the Mountain West."
Boise State's entrance into the conference will be marked by three special programs airing July 1 on The Mountain West Sports Network (The Mtn.) with repeated broadcasts during "Boise State Week" July 4-10. The Mtn. is available on Cable One (channel 329) and DirecTV (616). The initial broadcast times on July 1 for the shows are 7 p.m. (MT) for "Boise State Football: An Epic Ascent," 7:30 p.m. for "Beyond the Blue with Boise State Athletics," and 8 p.m. for "Welcome to Boise and Boise State University." Additionally, the Boise State edition of "Stories of the Mountain West" will air at 7 p.m. on July 4.

In 2012, Fresno State, University of Nevada, Reno and the University of Hawaii (football only) will be part of the conference.
"The Mountain West is a young and dynamic conference that reflects our up-and-coming reputation," Kustra said. "We are excited by the quality of athletic competition in the intermountain west, the academic affiliation with universities known among the finest in the nation, and the future opportunity to be reunited with some of our past conference members."
The Mountain West Conference began with eight members in 1998. Boise State's previous conference affiliations included the Big Sky from 1970-1996, Big West from 1996-2001 and the Western Athletic Conference from 2001-2011.
