CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON NORTH TOWER OF THE PRESS BOX / SKY SUITES ADDITION TO BRONCO STADIUM

BOISE, Idaho A major component of the new press box / sky suites addition currently under construction at Bronco Stadium on the Boise State University campus has started as a constant pour of concrete began to flow on the north elevator tower on Monday (June 25).

Layton Construction, the general contractor for the $35.9 million project, will pour concrete constantly 24 hours a day for the next seven days.  When the pour is finished the 25 by 35 foot tower, which will be 160 feet high, will contain 252,360 lbs. (126 tons) of rebar and over 1,100 cubic yards of concrete.

Additionally, crews will be placing a variety of 2,200 embeds which are steel connectors for other structural elements which will be attached later in the construction process.

This tower, along with the south tower which will be constructed next month, will hold passenger and freight elevators and stairways taking media and fans to four different levels.

The first is the loge level which has 44 loge boxes and a 4,000-square foot Bronco Club Room.  The Club Level will contain 740 club seats and the 5,500-square foot AgriBeef Stadium Club.  The third level will incorporate approximately 25 suites and a conference area.  The top Press Level will accommodate working media, game operations, coaches’ booths and suites.

The ground floor will have a full service kitchen, ticket office, merchandise store and truck bays for television production vehicles.  New concession and rest room facilities will also be built on the lower and upper concourses on the west side of the stadium.

Ground was broken February 14, 2007, and it is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2008 football season.
