WAC Announces 2010 Spring All-Academic Teams

DENVER, Colo. - The Western Athletic Conference announced its 2010 spring semester all-academic teams as well as the 2009-10 All-WAC freshmen/transfer teams, Wednesday (June 16) morning, which includes 65 honors for Boise State student-athletes from 15 different teams.

The spring academic All-WAC teams recognize student-athletes from baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field. The All-WAC freshmen/transfer teams features student-athletes from all sports. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Boise State had student-athletes from seven different teams qualify for All-WAC academic honors this spring, with 27 total student-athletes receiving nominations. Women's outdoor track and field led the way with 10 All-WAC academic honorees, while men's outdoor track and field was close behind with nine. Women's tennis and softball both saw three student-athletes receive academic recognition, while men's golf, women's golf and men's tennis each had one.

The Broncos also made their presence felt on the 2009-10 All-WAC freshman/transfer teams, as 34 different Boise State student-athletes were honored from 14 teams. Softball and swimming and diving led the way in freshmen/transfer academic selections with five each. Men's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field finished close behind with four. Women's basketball and women's indoor track and field received the next highest nominations at three, while women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, men's tennis, men's outdoor track and field and volleyball each had two. Football and women's tennis round out the group of honorees as each team had one student-athlete named to the all-WAC freshmen/transfer team.
