?BUILD THE BLUE? ON-LINE EXPERIENCE TO BENEFIT SUMMER SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State University and Bronco football are known nationwide and beyond for the eye catching blue turf of Bronco Stadium.  But what would happen if the blue in the turf suddenly went away, removing one of the signature icons of Boise State?  In an on-line experience, the distinct color of Bronco Stadium has faded and fans are being asked to help build the blue’ from scratch, in an attempt to return the field to its natural’ color.

“Build The Blue!” is an interactive fundraising mechanism through www.BroncoSports.com.  For every $10 donation, one square yard of Boise State’s football field will return to blue.  All the proceeds will go to help the Summer School Scholarship Program, benefiting Bronco student-athletes.

“Many people don’t realize it, but summer is one of the most critical times for our program,” said head football coach Chris Petersen.  “All of our coaches will echo that.  Allowing the players to take classes and stay in town to train has a huge impact on their academic and athletic progress, and allows us to get that much further ahead.”

This summer more than 200 Boise State student-athletes from all 19 varsity sports will be taking classes, getting ahead in their school work and preparing for the upcoming competition season.  The typical summer student-athlete cost for one course, a book allowance and a month of room and board is $1,500.

Summer school is the number one reason Boise State athletics has improved its overall grade-point-average and Academic Progress Rate (APR) the past several years, and allowed the Broncos to stay competitive on and off the field nationally.

This past academic year, five Boise State athletic programs recorded the top APR ranking in the WAC (football, men’s basketball, men’s tennis, men’s outdoor track & field, and men’s cross country).  Four other teams finished among the top three (women’s basketball, women’s swimming & diving, women’s soccer, and men’s indoor track & field).  To top it off, football was 17th nationally among all Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) schools in APR ranking.

“Build The Blue!” is a unique virtual experience tied in with one of the most unique athletic sites in the country.  All gifts are tax deductible and fans are asked to pass the link on to fellow Broncos, friends or other social network connections, with a goal of giving Bronco Stadium its blue turf back, while simultaneously helping the Bronco Summer School Scholarship Program.
