BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University began an investigation of potential NCAA violations in February of 2009.  During the investigation Boise State has employed outside counsel from The Compliance Group and Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC to help with this process.

The athletic department has paid $201,000 over the past two years for outside compliance expertise and legal guidance regarding NCAA policies and procedures.  The monies paid are from athletic department program revenue.  No taxpayer dollars have been spent.

Boise State recognized the fact that it would be beneficial to seek outside advice from firms highly respected and experienced in helping universities deal with these types of matters.

The firms have also provided valuable education in setting up best practices and new policies and procedures for the athletic department to follow.

Boise State already has implemented several changes, including the hiring of additional compliance staff, updating policies in its athletics compliance manual, increasing rules education and improving compliance documentation.
