Bronco Spirit Squad Experiences Successful 2017-18 Season

April 7, 2018

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State Spirit Squad, comprised of cheerleaders, Mane Line Dancers and Buster Bronco, experienced a very successful 2017-18 campaign, highlighted by earning multiple honors at the USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, Calif.

Thanks to Bronco Nation and their generous donations to the Pony Up Campaign, the Broncos were able to attend and dominate the USA Collegiate Championships, as they were named the "Must Watch Collegiate Team," by Varsity Inc., en route to taking home multiple honors at the event.

For the third-straight year the BSU cheerleading team placed first in the Small Coed Show Cheer Division.

The Mane Line Dancers placed second in Hip Hop and fifth in Open Dance Division.

Beloved mascot Buster Bronco, in his competition debut performance, took home first in the College Mascot Division.

In addition to representing Boise State at football, basketball and volleyball games, the Spirit Squad is also very active in the community, making over 80 community appearances throughout the season, volunteering with organizations such as Special Olympics and St. Luke's Children's Hospital.

The Spirit Squad also hosts two youth camps annually, one in the summer and one in the winter. The 2018 Winter Youth Clinic had its largest turn out with 67 participants showing off their skills at the men's basketball game versus Air Force.

The Spirit Squad's overall team GPA is a 3.2, the cheerleading team GPA is a 3.1 and the Mane Line Dancers' GPA is a 3.4, with many student-athletes in majors such as pre-med, pre-law and in nursing. Seventy percent of the squad has a GPA above 3.0, with eight members boasting a GPA of 4.0. Six members have had a GPA of 3.0 or better for seven-straight semesters.

The Spirit Squad will graduate 11 seniors in 2018: Mason Bailey, Abby Bergmann, Jessica Castle, Clint Clifford, Kinsey Garn, Mikaila Hardman, Cooper Lyons, Rachel Moir, Amber Mitchison, Madeline Streeter and Brittany Zeigler.
