Jan. 28, 2014

BOISE, Idaho - Bob Behler, play-by-play voice of the Boise State football and men's basketball teams, has been named Idaho Sportscaster of the Year for the fourth-consecutive year, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association announced recently.

Behler will be honored at the 55th Annual NSSA Awards Weekend, held June 7-9, in Salisbury, N.C.

In addition to his play-by-play duties with the Broncos, Behler also co-hosts the Bob and Murph Show on KTIK (93.1 FM), Monday-Friday.

Behler has been with the Broncos since the 2008-09 season, and has called some of the most memorable moments in recent memory at Boise State. Included are Bronco football's victories in the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl; wins in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas from 2010-12; and wins against Oregon (2008 and 2009), Virginia Tech (2010) and Georgia (2011).

Behler also called Boise State's 2013 NCAA Tournament game in Dayton, Ohio, the first game in the tournament as an at-large selection in school history, and the team's victory over 11th-ranked Creighton in 2012-13, the highest-ranked team the team has defeated in school history.

He joined the Broncos after serving nine years as the Director of Broadcast Services at Massachusetts, where he won eight Associated Press awards for his play-by-play of Minutemen sports.

From 1986-99, Behler was the voice at Bucknell, and from 1985-86, he broadcast for the Chattanooga Lookouts AA baseball team.

Behler has also freelanced CBS Radio, calling NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games, and for ESPN Radio, providing SportsCenter updates.

He received his bachelor's degree in broadcast news from Georgia in 1985, where he announced women's basketball and baseball. A native of Stockton, Calif., he started his broadcasting career in high school doing local sports.
