Employment

NCAA regulations allow student-athletes to earn legitimate on-and-off campus employment income. To be "legitimate," the income must be for work actually performed and it cannot exceed the going rate in the locality for similar work. Furthermore, the work cannot include any income received for the value of the student-athlete that results from his or her athletic reputation.

In addition to seeking traditional employment, student-athletes may also provide lessons for a fee. If a student-athlete provides a lesson for a fee certain NCAA guidelines must be followed. First, lessons cannot be provided at any Boise State University facilities. Second, fees must be reasonable. Additionally, the student-athlete must actually provide a lesson. Finally, although it is not required by the NCAA, the Boise State University Athletics Compliance Office requests that you maintain a log which includes the date of each lesson, the length of time spent providing each lesson, the fee charged for each lesson, and a description of the instruction provided during each lesson.

If you plan to seek employment or provide lessons for a fee you must visit the Boise State University Athletics Compliance Office to complete the appropriate paperwork and receive guidance in determining what is a reasonable rate or fee.
